This book surprised me. I expected something dry and repetitive like GRR Martin. Not so! As my first foray into Midkemia, I had no preconceived notions about previous books in the series. To my pleasant surprise, the action, characters and story were completely reminiscent of DG. Gripping twists and shocking turns were constants.
This book made me do something I haven’t done since David's books, I went back and bought the previous book - Wrath of a Mad God.
To all our female readers, there are two strong female leads- Sandreena and Miranda. One is a Knight Adamant and the other is a sorceress. Pivotal roles in the tale are carried by these two.
And there is none of the 'lame wordiness' some people have accused Fiest of in the Forums. There is enough tension and magic for anyone here, concisely stated and artfully presented. All the bad guys are consistently bad and all the good guys are not so consistently good. But I have to warn you, not every character survives this adventure!
I really want to see the next volume when it comes out. Is that not the art of storytelling?
Leaves you wanting more!
