I can't speak for its quality as I haven't read it, but The Sword-Edged Blonde by Alex Bledsoe is exactly that. The sequel, Burn Me Deadly is due out in about three weeks.

Naomi Novik's publisher took the same approach with her first three novels and it worked really well for her too, including a John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer and Compton Crook Award.
Personally I found the ending to be entirely appropriate in the context of the various relationships the protagonist built up over the course of the novel.

This was a wonderfully witty and entertaining story and was populated with such brilliantly conceived characters, including the best anti-hero I've come across.
I won't be voting for it, but it is definitely in my top 5.
